The United Arab Emirates announced the appointment of the CEO of the state-owned oil company Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to preside over the next UN climate conference (COP28), scheduled for the end of the year in Dubai, which has been heavily criticized by environmental activists.
Ahmed al Jaber also heads a renewable energy company, is the UAE’s Minister of Industry and Special Envoy for Climate Change and describes the fight against climate change as “central” for his country, which is likely to be particularly affected.
